SSL Meeting notes for April 6 Slogan for today's meeting: "Spring: It's not just a set of dates, it's a {time of year, state of mind}." Martin decided to take notes today, so Carl will take them on Thursday. Sam neglected to bring snacks, so he will bring them on Thursday. Brendan will bring snacks and take notes on Tuesday. Martin kicked off the meeting by talking more about his Markoff eigenvalue stuff. He had a plot of the second eigenvalue for various Markoff graphs. It appears that the Markoff eigenvalues may converge below 3, though he hasn't been able to gather enough data (only up through p = 43 or so). To gather more data he'll need a better program than Maple. Stephen agreed that this was worth pursuing. During the meeting, he located a program that was used in a paper which was all about computing graph eigenvalues. He need to modify it slightly as the program was left somewhat incomplete, but should have it working fairly soon. Carl was working on his writeup. He was confused about the Newton case where b = 0 (i.e. y = ax^2 + c). Sam commented that it may have been similar to the doubled roots case. Though the group realized that the b = 0 case was minor, they wanted the result to be general. Brendan had not begun his writeup. Sam has everything written out by hand but hasn't begun transcribing in LaTeX in earnest. After determining that Carl, Brendan, Sam, and Hal could work on their writeups and that Emilie could work on liftings, the meeting was moved to the lab.
